| Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a kayak tour and a rental?
People often confuse tours and rentals--Tours are kayak trips that
a trained
knowledgeable guide leads. Beginners are welcome on tours. Rentals
are trips in which the
client rents just the kayak and gear. There is no guide with them.
Can I rent once I’ve been on a tour?
No, a tour is only an
introduction to sea kayaking. It is NOT a lesson.
Can I take lessons?
Yes, after you have been in a kayak more than
once and you are ready to increase your skills.
Can I rent if I have no experience?
For safety reasons, ONLY people
who have taken the appropriate training are eligible for rentals. We do have sit-on-top style kayaks available for rent with no experience. They are to be paddled within Port Browning only.
What is the appropriate training?
Renters must have completed instruction
from a recognized organization and have knowledge of basic paddling,
rescues, navigation, and tides and currents. No solo rentals. We
do require a security deposit and 24 hour cancellation notification.
What kayak tour would be best for me?
We recommend a 2 hour introductory tour for beginners. This is a
nice introduction to
paddling and our beautiful Pender shoreline. The tour includes a
safety talk and brief
instruction.
We recommend the 3 hour tour if you have paddled before. You get
to explore further
and play longer.
If you're adventurous enough, we will customize a full day tour to suit your needs.
Can children go out?
Most definitely!! Due to size and strength, children need to be
11 years of age and 5 ft
tall before they go in there own kayak. Otherwise, for their enjoyment
and safety they need to go
in a double with an “adult”. The exception to this is
when we have special Kid’s Kayaking. We do
take children under 18 out on tours without a parent-but the adult
must sign the waiver as
well for anyone under 19 years. You must be 18+ in order to rent
sea kayaks.
What should I wear for a tour?
You should wear weather appropriate clothing: Rain jacket or wind
breaker if
needed, sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses with a tether, shorts or
pants that can roll up to the knee.
Cotton is NOT a good material to wear. This includes JEANS. Fleece
or polypro fabrics work best. We do have a small selection of water
shoes you can use. Don’t forget your water bottle, snacks
and medication if you need them!
What if it rains?
Rain creates some of the most beautiful paddling in the Gulf Islands-don’t
let a few clouds
and raindrops scare you! We watch the weather carefully and will
cancel if it is a risk with
winds, visibility or lightning.
Cancellation policy
If you need to cancel your booking, we require a 24 hour cancellation
notification or we
will have to charge for the trip.
